ReMarkable launches Paper Pure, a cheaper 10.3-inch e-ink tablet

ReMarkable introduced the Paper Pure, a 10.3-inch e-ink tablet priced from £359, and is pushing a software update that adds calendar and cloud integrations across its device lineup.

ReMarkable announced the Paper Pure, a 10.3-inch e-ink tablet available now in two bundles: the device with a marker for £359 and a bundle that includes a Sleeve Folio for £399. The company positions the Pure as a separate, lower-cost line from its Paper Pro models; the Pure is smaller, lacks color and omits some premium features found on the Pro line.

The Paper Pure includes a 10.3-inch 3rd-generation Canvas display powered by E-Ink Carta 1300. Internal hardware comprises a 1.7 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and a 3,820 mAh battery. The tablet measures 228.1 x 187.1 x 6 mm and weighs 360 g. The device ships with an all-black marker; the Sleeve Folio is sold separately in multiple colors and does not clip onto the tablet. The Paper Pure does not include a built-in front light.

ReMarkable said it will roll a software update to all existing devices. The operating system is built on a custom Linux base. The update introduces simplified layouts, new templates, enhanced handwriting search and conversion tools that turn notes into editable documents, and on-device document editing capabilities.

The Paper Pure adds integrations with Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook for creating meeting notes. It can pull files from Google Drive, Dropbox and Microsoft Word for editing on the device and can import web pages including images. Converted handwriting and sketches can be shared to Slack. ReMarkable introduced limited AI features to assist with document conversion and workflow and described those features as supplementary.

The company stated the Pure feels faster than previous models, with reduced lag when writing and briefer screen refresh flashes as ink registers. ReMarkable attributes the performance gains to the 1.7 GHz CPU and software refinements. Battery capacity is 3,820 mAh; in one two-week hands-on test of typical work use-note taking, document editing and sketching-the device ran without charging and ended with about 14% battery remaining.

ReMarkable also announced Connect for Business, a subscription aimed at enterprise customers that adds device management and enterprise single sign-on to support workplace deployment.

The company describes the Paper Pure as intended for customers seeking its pencil-on-paper writing experience at a lower price point. The Paper Pro remains available for buyers who want a larger display, color options and additional premium features.
