Phil Brown, CEO of Clearstream Banking, won Global Custodian’s 10th Industry Person of the Year in a live vote of 300 attendees at the Leaders in Custody event.
Phil Brown, CEO of Clearstream Banking, was named Global Custodian’s 10th Industry Person of the Year at the Leaders in Custody event held last night. The winner was chosen by a live vote of about 300 attendees.
Brown took the stage to a standing ovation, thanked colleagues and peers, and acknowledged fellow shortlisted nominees Fiona McNally of BNY, Isabelle Delorme of Euroclear and Mark Austin of Northern Trust.
During the past year Clearstream launched the D7 platform and pursued efforts to digitize the Eurobond market aimed at improving post-trade processes. The firm also migrated a global broker-dealer and several large neo-broker clients in Europe onto its European central securities depository platform.
International projects led or overseen by Brown included enabling the use of offshore Chinese government bonds for initial margin segregation and completing Clearstream’s first tri-party repo transaction in Taiwan.
Brown took part in conferences and held roles in industry associations where he addressed Europe’s transition to T+1 settlement, differing national market structures across the continent and post-trade digitization.
Brown previously received Global Custodian’s GC Legend award in 2018.
