OpenAI refocuses ChatGPT as enterprise super app

OpenAI is transforming ChatGPT into an enterprise-focused super app that puts coding tools, AI agents and image generation at the center. The redesign will appear on the ChatGPT website and mobile apps in the coming weeks as the company prepares for a public offering.

The new interface will direct ChatGPT’s reported 900 million weekly users to built-in coding features, image-creation tools and partner applications. The company will integrate Codex, previously offered as a separate developer product, and add agents that can complete multistep tasks on users’ behalf.

OpenAI plans to shift more activity into higher-margin enterprise products. The company completed a $122 billion funding round in March at an $852 billion valuation, with commitments that included $50 billion from Amazon and $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank. OpenAI generates about $2 billion in monthly revenue but remains unprofitable because of heavy compute costs.

The company filed confidential paperwork for an initial public offering in late May and has engaged Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as advisers on a potential listing. Company leaders say they want to grow enterprise revenue before the IPO process advances.

A person familiar with the plans said OpenAI intends to reduce user reliance on typed prompts over time. The person added that models will be trained to infer users’ intentions from activity on the app or site. One user wrote publicly that the redesign feels ‘the beginning of the AGI transition’ and suggested that ditching prompts could improve voice interaction.

Rival AI companies are also preparing public listings. Anthropic filed a confidential S-1 on June 1 after a $65 billion funding round that valued it at $965 billion; its reported revenue run rate reached $47 billion in May. The group of large AI startups pursuing listings has increased focus on clear revenue paths and product differentiation.

OpenAI says the redesign will roll out in stages and appear to users over the coming weeks. The company plans to present ChatGPT as a platform with embedded developer tools and autonomous agents and to route more user activity toward enterprise-grade services.
