Morgan Stanley, Galaxy launch crypto-to-ETF for institutions

Morgan Stanley and Galaxy Digital launched a service letting institutional clients convert crypto holdings into ETF shares without selling into spot markets.

Morgan Stanley and Galaxy Digital announced a service that lets institutional clients convert existing digital-asset holdings into exchange-traded fund shares without first selling into spot markets.

The offering is a collaboration between Morgan Stanley’s institutional channels and Galaxy Digital’s crypto operations. It targets large asset managers, hedge funds, family offices and other institutional investors that want to shift exposure into a regulated ETF structure while keeping exposure intact during the conversion.

Under the arrangement, institutions can move tokens held in custody into a conversion pipeline and receive ETF creations in kind instead of executing sales on exchanges. Operational steps include verification of holdings, custody transfer, valuation for in-kind creation and delivery of ETF shares to client accounts. Settlement and safekeeping will use existing institutional custody arrangements used by the firms.

Morgan Stanley will make the route available to its institutional clients and Galaxy Digital will provide trading and digital-asset custody capabilities. The partners said they will initially focus on clients with large positions and may expand access over time. The firms described the process as intended to reduce large spot-market transactions that can move prices and raise trading costs.

The service covers conversion of spot crypto holdings into ETFs that track the same digital assets. No fees, eligibility thresholds or a full public rollout timetable were disclosed. The announcement noted that additional details and onboarding information will be provided to clients and counterparties through private channels.

The announcement follows a period of increased institutional interest in regulated spot crypto ETFs and addresses the operational need for pathways that let large holders migrate into ETF structures while limiting market impact.
