Malwarebytes adds free Junk Cleaner to Android app

Malwarebytes added a free Junk Cleaner to its Android app to remove leftover files, temporary data and caches and free storage.

Malwarebytes has added a free Junk Cleaner to its Android app. The feature scans for leftover installation files, temporary items and outdated caches to free storage space and reduce device slowdowns.

The cleaner is built into the existing Android app and is available at no extra charge. The company states the tool removes unused files and temporary data and includes privacy-oriented options that focus on traces of unused files rather than active app data.

To run the Junk Cleaner, open the Malwarebytes app on an Android device and tap the Junk Cleaner card, then tap Clean. First-time users must grant two permissions: file access and usage access. For file access, tap Give permission and enable Allow Malwarebytes to manage all files. For usage access, open Settings, choose App usage data, select Malwarebytes and turn on Permit access to app usage data. If the toggle is grayed out, follow the on-screen instructions to enable access. After permissions are set, return to the Junk Cleaner screen, tap Refresh, then Select all and Clean all. Users can also select individual files or folders to delete.

When the cleanup finishes the app displays an ‘All clean’ screen that shows how much storage was freed. Malwarebytes notes that files deleted with the Junk Cleaner cannot be recovered through the app, so users should review selections before confirming deletion.

The Junk Cleaner complements the app’s existing antivirus and security features. The company offers plans for individuals, families and small businesses. The updated Android app with the cleaner can be downloaded from app stores and the cleaner is enabled through the app’s permission prompts.
