HTX: UK Sanctions on Huobi Global S.A. Won’t Affect User Funds
HTX says the UK listing of Panama-registered Huobi Global S.A. will not affect HTX operations or customer assets.
HTX responded that the UK listing of Panama-registered Huobi Global S.A. does not affect the HTX exchange’s operations or customer funds and that the listed legal entity is separate from the online platform.
The UK government added Huobi Global S.A. to its Russia sanctions list on May 26, 2026, as part of a package targeting entities the government says supported Russia’s financial sector and may have enabled sanctions evasion through cryptocurrency. The designation included other platforms such as EXMO.
Under the UK designation, listed entities face asset freezes and restrictions on dealing in funds or economic resources. British individuals and companies must stop transactions with designated entities and report exposures to the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation. The UK warns that violations can lead to civil and criminal penalties.
In a public statement, the exchange wrote: ‘The listed Huobi Global S.A. is distinct from the online HTX exchange and the designation should not affect the platform.’ The company added it had not received prior notice or supporting evidence from UK authorities and said the Panama-registered entity will engage with officials to address the decision.
Justin Sun, the Tron founder who serves as a public adviser to HTX and has ownership ties to the platform, was not named on the UK list.
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority previously took enforcement action against HTX over unlawful financial promotions to UK consumers, including court orders and blocks of the exchange’s apps and social accounts in the country.
The exchange said it is monitoring developments and will take any required compliance steps to protect customers and operations. HTX encouraged users to follow official government lists for updates and to report concerns through the exchange’s support channels or the relevant authorities.
